Everyone’s done it at some point in their lives – a false step on the sidewalk, turning your body around too fast and leaving your toes behind, or diving for a football and landing the wrong way on your foot. Boom! — Foot fracture. Sprained toe. It only takes a second.
Once something like that happens, you’re not likely to comfortably get back on your feet right away. Unless, of course, you’re a little bit superhuman like the Atlanta Falcons’ Julio Jones. During the pre-season, Jones suffered a sprained ankle. In December, Jones was sidelined for weeks with turf toe. And yet, he still performed like a beast in Super Bowl 51.
Professional athletes have an amazing resource at their disposal: trainers and physical therapists that travel with the team, assessing and treating injuries with constant monitoring, massaging, manipulation, taping, immobilization, etc. That’s one of the reasons Julio Jones was able to pull off some crazy maneuvers at the big game. He’s gotten excellent, consistent care for his injuries. This is his profession – he’s got to have that kind of consistent care in order to get out on the field.
