I am Chanda Day-Houts, DPM. I graduated from Des Moines University in 1999. I completed a residency program at the Central Alabama Veteran’s Health Care System in 2000. I decided to become a podiatrist because my feet hurt (no really, they did!). I have a huge family (my Dad is one of 12 children) and all of us have ingrown toenails. Between flat feet and ingrowing nails, my podiatrist was one of my favorite people growing up.
I am originally from Oklahoma. My family still lives there. We try to visit several times a year. If you have never been there, the wind actually does “come sweeping down the plains.”
I married Birmingham native James Houts in December 2000. He is an attorney for the State of Alabama. We have two great children, Meg and Alec. Meg is a 6 th grader at Eclectic Middle School and Alec is in Kindergarten at Eclectic Elementary School. They keep us very busy.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and children. I adore crocheting and reading. I have just completed my Advanced Open Water SCUBA training. I am now a certified diver! We enjoy vacations to Oklahoma and the beach. Disney World is another vacation favorite!
All aspects of podiatry interest me. Feet are intricate systems that allow us to get from place to place. I am especially fascinated by gout, it is a truly destructive disease. I also enjoy performing surgery. Correcting bunions, hammertoes, ingrown toenails and any other mechanical problems give me a sense of satisfaction. I truly enjoy being able to improve the quality of life for my patients.
